The creators at Openbook are taking a stand against Facebook.
Openbook is a parody and has no ties with Facebook, they would just like to be heard.
The site allows users AND non-users of Facebook to search for information, made public via the site. Creepy huh? Information that is leaked about user’s include: Pictures, status updates, relationship status’, etc. You can even do a name search. The possibilities are endless and there is so much dirt on the site, really, anything goes.
Openbook’s goal is to: “Get Facebook to restore the privacy of this information, so that this website and others like it no longer work.”
Openbook isn’t trying to be mean by sharing all this sensitive information, they are just trying to make us aware that the privacy setting’s on Facebook must to be made clearer and must change immediately. If Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook founder) doesn’t make changes to Facebook’s privacy settings soon, he will lose millions of user’s on May 31st 2010. Many people feel that Facebook has violated their trust, and are pledging to delete their accounts on that day.
So will Zuckerberg cave and give-in to our privacy requests or just lose millions of users? The choice is up to you Mark, do the right thing!
