Facebook Gifts – ‘Hasta La Vista Baby’

Just last week, Facebook announced that they will officially kill the company’s Gift Shop on August 1st of this year.  The Gift Shop sells:  Virtual Gifts, E-Cards, Real Gifts, Charity Donations, and Music/MP3′s.  Following August 1st, users received gifts will still be visible but the option to purchase will be obsolete.

So why is the company getting rid of the shop?

Facebook is being smart and weighing-out their options – concentrating on parts of the company that are doing both very well and that have promise.  Facebook stated in their blog last week that the decision was made, “after careful thought about where we need to focus our product development efforts.”  The company is focusing on improving new and upcoming projects big time; with Facebook moving in the direction of mission ‘Google overtake’, newer projects have more priority over the smaller, like the Gift Shop.

Will you miss spending money on virtual flower arrangements and ‘Happy Birthday’ cakes?  Personally, I won’t miss the gift shop at all – I forgot all about the feature until Facebook made this big announcement.

Besides, who needs virtual gifts anyway?
