Divorce Rates Rise – Facebook to Blame?

With the growth of social networking sites, more and more relationships are ending in divorce.

According to MyFoxPhilly.com, a survey compiled with some of the nation’s top divorce lawyers, found more clients are coming to divorce court armed with Facebook evidence to prove spouses are cheating.

Mary Cay Trace, a divorce attorney, told MyFoxPhilly.com, “You can now search beyond your neighbors and your co-workers if you’re trying to find somebody to replace what you think is missing in your marriage.”  One client shared with the survey that she found love notes that her husband sent an old flame from grade school that he reconnected with on Facebook.  Their 13-year marriage soon ended shortly after her find, and her husbands new flame filed for divorce as well.

This site also reports that  it’s not always the betrayed spouse who stumbles across the Internet and finds evidence. Even worse, it’s friends, neighbors and sometimes the children who bust their parent.

With so many new gateways for people to connect, as proved here, social networking doesn’t always have positive side effects, but negative too.
