Facebook Forces Users Over to the New Profile

On Monday, Facebook announced that they will be rolling out the new profile feature to everyone.  Last month, Facebook introduced the new feature to users, giving them the option to upgrade to the new profile early.  For the users who have not already upgraded to the new profile will be forced to upgrade them within the next week.  Facebook users are well aware that profile layouts change frequently on the social network site and with that change, there has been an expected backlash.  Many users do not like the new profile layout and are lashing out on Facebook, creating new groups and fan pages dedicated to the revolt against the new Facebook profile layout.  The new profile layout has changed quite a bit so its quite understandable why so many users are in a huff about the new layout.  Take a look at the features the new profile layout offers:

  • A quick summary of who you are (like where you work, education, where you live, grew up, languages you speak) right at the top of your profile page
  • A row of recently tagged photos so friends can see what you have been up to as of late
  • Space to highlight meaningful friendships (co-workers, teammates or roommates)
  • More of your favorite activities and interests
  • The ability to tag your friends in life experiences across the social network

Facebook Gets A New Profile Layout…Again

As you have probably heard and encountered, Facebook has recently undergone a facelift with their profile layout yet again.  The new profile layout offers users a bigger displayed profile picture, their latest tagged photographs and information about them at the top and center of the profile page.  The new look was unveiled Sunday afternoon right before Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerburg was interviewed on CBS News “60 Minutes.”  The CEO mentioned that the new profile layout was designed to make the social network profiles more centered around the user and the user’s friends.  Check out the updates below that are included with the new Facebook profile layout upgrade:

  • Profile picture in upper left-hand corner is now bigger
  • Personal information (place of work, where you live, hometown, education, birthdate) are now under your name near the top of the screen
  • Family members and friends are featured in your left-hand column
  • Friends or special groups can be featured in your left-hand column
  • By clicking on a friend, you can now view your Facebook history with them

Facebook Scam Alert: “Who Viewed My Profile” App Returns

Facebook users have the tendency to fall for scammy apps over and over again.

The one such app that seems to get Facebook users everytime, Who Viewed My Profile, has made its way back on the the social networking site as an app.  Don’t be fooled, apps that promise to show you who has viewed your profile do not exist.  Facebook login reports that, “Scammers have used different variants of Facebook apps to tap into users’ curiosity about who might be viewing their profile on Facebook.”  The latest app using this scheme to scam users comes with this message, “OMG OMG OMG… I cant believe this actually works! Now you really can see who viewed your profile! on [LINK].”  According to their policy, Facebook does not allow apps like these but many users still fall for the scam in almost every case.  According to Sophos, more than 60,000 people clicked into the trap in a few hours, which further cements the fact that users need to educate themselves more about these types of scams.

It would even be nice for Facebook to add “Scam of the Week” alerts to each and every user news feed. I’m sure this move by the social networking site would help out users by a landslide.  What do you think? Have you been hit by such scam apps?  If you need help, check out this article on how to remove rogue applications.
