Like many, we tuned into the f8 conference a week ago and were introduced to the Spotify music app for Facebook. Once installed on your desktop, the app shares your music choices via Facebook, which allows your friends to see what your listening to and can join in and listen to your music list.
Spotify even goes as far as allowing users to enable private listening if some of your personal music choices are on the embarrassing side. For example, I have an unexplainable love for the Backstreet Boys but I am a little too embarrassed to let this secret out. With Spotify, you can enable the “Private Listening” feature for any song that you feel shouldn’t be shared amongst your Facebook friends. Founder Daniel Ek comments that the feature is part of a new desktop client and is designed to “temporarily hide your guilty pleasures” and works just like your web browser’s private mode.

We’re pretty sure you know what we’re talking about when we say “Facebook News Ticker.”
No? What if we say the annoying news-feed-like window that sits directly on top of your chat window?
The new homepage ticker was pushed out by Facebook on Wednesday September 21st to all users of the social network. The new feature is programmed to give us more of a “news” insight into our friends activity (in real time) via Facebook. Creepy right? The news ticker shows when you have chat open, and if you close chat, it takes residence above the ads and everything else. Talk about a migraine!
Currently, this news ticker is not optional and we don’t know if Facebook will ever make it optional, fingers crossed. Until that happens, here are some nifty solutions to getting rid of that annoying Facebook news ticker courtesy of AllFacebook.com: Continue Reading »
Have you ever wanted to refine what you see daily in your News Feed?
Facebook will be rolling out a new site feature, which will allow users to choose exactly what they want to see in their individual News Feeds. With this new feature, you can block certain friend shares from showing up in your News Feed. Everyone has that one annoying friend who posts every hour; with the Subscribe button, you can block out this friend completely and easily.
Keep in mind that this new feature is opt in only (at the moment). If you would like to opt in for this feature, you can do so here: http://www.facebook.com/about/subscribe

Can you say hallelujah?!
Facebook has now released a feature to Facebook page admins where they can now add fans to their pages by sending notification to Facebook friends. This new feature is a bit more robust and convenient than the previously available “suggest to friends” feature, which was removed earlier this year. Admins now have the ability to search for friends by name or filter by recent interactions, group, and even friend lists. It seems that there isn’t really a limit to how many notifications you can send but be weary; Facebook has a thing out for Fan page admins who try to purposely spam users of the social site.
The cool thing about this new feature is that if a page has more than one admin, those admins have available to them the combined networks. We wonder too if Facebook Deals has become just as popular as fan pages now? The social site is growing and changing at a rapid pace; we are beginning to feel that trying to keep up with the network is becoming mighty hard. Do you agree?

On Monday, Facebook announced that they will be rolling out the new profile feature to everyone. Last month, Facebook introduced the new feature to users, giving them the option to upgrade to the new profile early. For the users who have not already upgraded to the new profile will be forced to upgrade them within the next week. Facebook users are well aware that profile layouts change frequently on the social network site and with that change, there has been an expected backlash. Many users do not like the new profile layout and are lashing out on Facebook, creating new groups and fan pages dedicated to the revolt against the new Facebook profile layout. The new profile layout has changed quite a bit so its quite understandable why so many users are in a huff about the new layout. Take a look at the features the new profile layout offers:
- A quick summary of who you are (like where you work, education, where you live, grew up, languages you speak) right at the top of your profile page
- A row of recently tagged photos so friends can see what you have been up to as of late
- Space to highlight meaningful friendships (co-workers, teammates or roommates)
- More of your favorite activities and interests
- The ability to tag your friends in life experiences across the social network

Ever wondered if you could customize the new Facebook profile with colors, artwork, or just personal photos of you and your friends?
Good news, you can! The even greater news is its simple and its free. The PageRage Facebook layouts application allows you to customize your Facebook layout in three easy steps:
- Visit www.pagerage.com to install the free plug-in.
- After you have installed successfully, you have the option to search the websites HUGE library of layouts or you can create your own layouts with their CYOL tool. The CYOL tool allows you to customize layouts by uploading images, photos, or even just sticking with general colors. The tool even allows you to share your creations on the PageRage website.
- It gets better, after you create or select a layout, you can then log into your Facebook account to see the layout in action!
The most impressive characteristic about this artistic tool is that only friends who have the plug-in installed can see your customizations. We see this as a win-win because there are some Facebook users who would prefer the website NOT to turn into Myspace. Check out the examples of layouts below to see just how you can customize your personal Facebook space with this nifty app tool and feel free to check out PageRage for more information on how you can get Facebook layouts for your profile!
